COVID-19 cases active from May to September 17, 2021
Tuolumne Public Health reports 17 new cases of COVID-19 since yesterday’s report, including a new case at the Sierra Conservation Center. There are 263 active cases of which 12 are hospitalized. The current total case rate, an average of 14 days for Tuolumne County, has fallen to 49.5 per 100,000 population from 51.4 yesterday. A total of 4,236 have been released from solitary confinement after testing positive for COVID-19, 263 cases are currently active, there have been 99 deaths and 1,620 inmate cases for a total of 6,218 total cases.
New cases reported today include 6 cases aged 17 or younger and 4 cases aged 60 and older. The breakdown by sex and age is; 1 girl and 2 boys from 0 to 11 years old, 2 girls and 1 boy from 12 to 17 years old, 2 women and 1 man from 18 to 29 years old, 1 woman from 30 to 39 years old, 2 men from 50 to 59 years old, 2 women aged 60 to 69, 1 man aged 70 to 79 and 1 man aged 80 to 89.
Of the 16 new community cases, 13 were not vaccinated and 3 were vaccinated. The only new case of Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) inmates brings the total number of active inmates to 10 according to the California Department of Corrections. There are three correctional facilities in the state with more active Covid cases.
Calaveras County Public Health reports 17 new Covid cases since yesterday’s report and 125 active cases, the most the county has seen since the start of the pandemic. Active cases include 3 ongoing Covid hospitalizations. There are 6 new cases aged 0 to 17 and 3 new cases in people aged 65 or over. Since the start of the pandemic, Calaveras has had 483 Covid-19 positive people aged 17 and under and 582 Covid-19 positive people aged 65 and over. Calaveras vaccinated 51.71% of its eligible population.
Mariposa County Public Health There are 7 new Covid cases since yesterday, 71 active cases including 11 Covid hospitalizations. The public health team took the time to review some information on cases of their Delta Wave, from July 15 to September 15, which brought 470 new cases of COVID-19. They say “That’s half of all the cases we’ve had during the entire pandemic. We are also saddened to share that we have seen 5 deaths during this time. We continue to see that the vast majority of cases involve unvaccinated individuals and of the total 23 cases that were hospitalized during this wave, only 3 were fully vaccinated. Another trend we are seeing in this latest wave is an increase in youth cases. Compared to the previous 13.5 months, we see twice as many cases in young people under 12 and around 3.5 times as many cases in 12 to 17 year olds.
COVID-19 test Starting Sunday, September 19, 2021, the Tuolumne County State Test Site at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds will add an additional test lane that will increase the number of appointments available each day. If you think you have been exposed to COVID, make an appointment to be tested 5 days after exposure. If you have any symptoms, please get tested immediately. The state test site is open 7 days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Mother Lode Exhibition Center. Appointments should be made rather than traveling. Appointments can be scheduled at www.lhi.care/covidtesting or by calling 888-634-1123. The test is also available at some pharmacies, Rapid Care, or the hospital emergency department if you have symptoms, or contact your health care provider.
Vaccines against covid-19 Appointments for vaccines can be made at local pharmacies and at myturn.ca.gov or by calling 833-422-4255. Anyone 12 years of age and older is eligible for a COVID vaccine, Pfizer is approved for anyone 12 years of age or older. As detailed here, healthcare workers should be vaccinated by September 30. The Pfizer vaccine requires 3 weeks between doses and Moderna requires 4 weeks. The J&J vaccine requires only one dose.
