17,000 Pokemon Go Players Unite to Clean Up 145 Tons of Waste

The developers of the very popular and highly successful Pokemon Go app have helped communities around the world to support the global Earth Day movement.

Niantic, the developer of Pokemon GO, organized an event in the game to encourage people to support Earth Day. The event rewarded players with an increase in the land-type Pokemon spawn rate, plus the number of people joining the bonus increases. Each of the reward levels was as follows; 2,000 players increased field-type re-emergence rates, 5,000 brilliant people. Diglettes will appear within 48 hours of reaching the goal. Finally, 7000 players joined Groudon to give birth to raids and the powder of stars and candies doubled.

Niantic has reported A total of 41,000 hours were spent at the event and 41 countries participated and cleaned up 145 tonnes of waste. 17,000 Pokemon Go players united worldwide, Niantic responded to the success of the event by stating "We are amazed at the work done by everyone involved. An effort like this highlights the impact that people can have when working together. Players worked in groups of 1 to 2,500, alongside government agencies, volunteer organizations and community members, creating an incredible impact.. "
