1,721 new cases of COVID-19 in Idaho, 23 new deaths

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI / KIDK) – Officials in Idaho on Thursday reported 1,721 new cases of COVID-19 and 23 new deaths.

This brings the total number of confirmed and probable cases reported since March to 106,455.

There are a total of 89,739 confirmed cases and 16,716 probable cases in 44 of Idaho’s 44 counties, according to figures released by local health districts and the state. See the table below.

Southeast Idaho Public Health has 175 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Southeast Idaho. You can see more HERE.

SIPH has also confirmed three deaths from COVID-19. You can see more HERE.

The SIPH COVID-19 risk level monitor has four categories: minimal, moderate, high and critical. Bannock, Bear Lake, Bingham, Butte, Caribou, Franklin, Oneida, and Power all fall into the high risk category.

Public health in eastern Idaho reported 237 new cases on Thursday. There are 113 new cases in Bonneville, 1 in Clark, 1 in Custer, 6 in Fremont, 36 in Jefferson, 4 in Lemhi, 66 in Madison and 10 in Teton. There are a total of 1,002 active cases. The EIPH COVID-19 risk level monitor has four categories: minimal, moderate, high, and critical. Bonneville and Madison are in the critical risk category. Jefferson, Fremont, Lemhi, and Teton fall into the high risk category. Custer falls into the moderate risk category. Clark is in the minimal risk category.

EIPH covers Bonneville, Clark, Custer, Fremont, Jefferson, Lemhi, Madison and Teton counties.

The hot spots so far this week are Canyon County, Ada County, Kootenai County, Bonneville County, and Bannock County.

The state reports that there are 42,274 estimated recovered COVID-19 cases.

The average age of Idahoans with COVID-19 is 40.0 years old and ranges from 1 to 100 years. Data exclude 49 people of unknown age.

The age group with the most cases is 18 to 29 with 27,850 cases.

The state said 71 new hospitalizations were reported, bringing the total to 4,271, and 11 new cases were admitted to the ICU, bringing the total to 791.

There are 5,290 asymptomatic cases reported and 5,304 among health workers.

23 new deaths were reported, bringing the total registered deaths to 1,014.

State officials say the deaths by age group break down as follows:

  • 2 people died between 18 and 29 years old
  • 6 people died between 30 and 39 years old
  • 21 people died between 40 and 49 years old
  • 37 people who died were aged 50 to 59
  • 129 people were between 60 and 69 years old
  • 277 people were between 70 and 79 years old
  • 542 people were 80 years old and over

95.0% of known race deaths were white. 0.9% of known race deaths were Asian. 0.7% of the known race deaths were Black or African American, 1.8% of Native Americans / Alaska Native and 1.60% were from “Other races / multiple races.” The race category for 12 fatalities is pending.

88.13% of known race deaths were non-Hispanic. 10.87% of deaths of known ethnicity were Hispanic. The ethnicity of 11 deaths is pending.
