JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The No.2 Jamestown Blue Jays ended Bismarck St. Mary’s 13-game winning streak on Friday night with a 20-7 victory over the Saints.

Bismarck’s only score came in the first quarter after the Saints capitalized on a Jamestown penalty on 4th base. Outside of the first practice, the Jamestown defense forced four turnovers and recorded a fourth save on the goal line to keep St. Mary’s in check.

Offensively, the Blue Jays entered the scoring column in the second quarter after a 16-game, 80-yard run that resulted in a quarterback sneaking and a rushed touchdown from Payton Hochhalter. It wouldn’t be the first time Hochhalter has reached the end zone as he scored again in fourth with another rushed touchdown. Hochhalter finished the game 12-19 in the air for 148 yards and a passing touchdown as well. The midair touchdown for Hochhalter came on a 4th and a 9 at Bismarck 14 when he hit Brode Hillstrom obliquely.

Jakob Schempp led the Blue Jays on rushing with 83 yards on 19 rushing attempts. Paris Ndikum helped divide the time with Schempp, carrying the ball 11 times for 30 total yards. Jamestown finished the game with 129 yards on the ground.

The Jamestown defense led the charge in the second half, knocking out Saints quarterback Nick Schumacher four times. Adam Kallenbach had two interceptions while Schempp and Ndikum each had a choice. Jamestown is the first team to beat St. Mary’s since the 2019 season.

The Blue Jays are now 3-0 overall and in the WDA, with the West Region’s final game taking place next Friday night in Watford City. Kick-off is set for 7pm and Wolves arrive after a 24-18 victory over Turtle Mountain.
