MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (AP) – Authorities claim that a North Carolina man was arrested after two children were shot in an angry road incident.

Surry County officials said Byron Donnell Green, 41, of Mount Airy, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injuries, unloading a weapon in an occupied property, causing bodily injury and assault while pointing a firearm. Bond for Green has been set at $ 600,000.

Investigators said a 9-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl were shot dead Saturday afternoon after Green was involved in a road rage incident with his father in the Mount Airy Flat Rock community. .

The children were taken to the hospital by their father. The boy was treated and released, and the girl was reported in a stable condition after surgery.
