DURHAM, NC – Two men were shot and killed near a parking lot on the campus of the Central University of North Carolina on Saturday evening, resulting in the lockdown of a stadium filled with football fans, have announced the authorities.

According to the Durham Police Department, the men were shot in the above ground parking lot next to Latham parking lot, The news and the observer of Raleigh reported. The police department said in a Tweeter that the men were taken to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Campus police sent an alert to the NCCU around 9:30 p.m. EDT, WRAL reported. None of the victims were students, NCCU officials said in A declaration.

More than 5,600 fans were at nearby O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium to watch the Eagles play at Winston-Salem State, the TV station reported. After an initial stadium lockdown, university officials said the Facebook that there was no continuing threat to the campus.

NCCU, a historically black public university, has an enrollment of approximately 8,000 students since last fall, CNN reported.
