Authorities said the suspect was in custody.
The two people shot dead at an NHK factory in Frankfort, Indiana on Wednesday were company employees – a grandmother and a granddaughter who were arriving for their shift, according to the Sheriff’s Office of the Clinton County.
The suspected suspect, Gary C. Ferrell, 26, was a factory worker in custody, authorities said.
Ferrell reportedly finished his shift before shooting Promise Mays, 21, and Pamela Sled, 62, Clinton County Sheriff Rich Kelly said during a press briefing Wednesday night.
The sheriff’s office said the 911 calls arrived at 4:15 p.m. local time. Shortly after, he warned residents to avoid the area due to the “active scene”.
When MPs showed up, Ferrell jumped into a car and drove away from the scene, but was found by police about a minute later, authorities said. Ferrell crashed his car after a high speed chase and was arrested. He was not injured in the minor accident, Clinton County Sheriff Richard Kelly said.
An investigation is underway and the sheriff had no information on a motive. Kelly said they couldn’t provide further information on Ferrell’s relationship with the victims.
Filming took place in the parking lot of NHK Seating of America in Frankfurt, Indiana. The plant manufactures seats and seat parts for a Subaru plant located near Lafayette.
“Please avoid the area of our new NHK,” the sheriff’s office wrote shortly after the incident began. “It’s an active scene.”
