Ava Apostolich, Carlson: Apostolovich is one of the many talented players who are due to return next year for Carlson. The junior forward led the Marauders in goals (12) and had three assists in a year the team won 12 games and won a district title. “She is a real player in all directions; which means she leaves everything on the pitch when she plays aggressively and attacks the goal area, ”Carlson coach Steve Briggs said.
Madelyn McNeil, Grosse-Île: McNeil won in what was only her first year at Grosse-Île. She served as a defenseman and was one of the main reasons the team allowed just seven goals in total and won 13 shutout games. Offensively, she assisted on the Red Devils’ lone goal in a 1-0 victory over league rival Riverview.
Carlee Olsen, Woodhaven: Olsen saw time as a forward and defender in her final season at Woodhaven. The senior helped lead the Warriors to seven shutout wins and contributed five goals and four assists.
Jaycee Passerman, Trenton: A solid year from Passerman has helped guide Trenton to another successful season. The junior and all-league defenseman played a key role for the Trojans, who have recorded 10 shutouts in total this spring. Offensively, she scored two goals and collected an assist.
Ashley Christesen, Huron: A natural midfielder, Christesen took on the forward role this spring and shone for Huron. The junior and all-league second-team winner has scored 10 goals and received four assists during what has been another solid year for the Chiefs overall.
Delaney Arndt, Grosse-Île: Arndt won second-team all-star honors in a season where Grosse-Île won 15 games, won league and district titles and allowed just seven goals in total. The second-year midfielder was typically tasked with defending the opposition’s top scorer. She excelled at shutting down possessions and getting the ball back for the Red Devils.
Isabelle Jucha, Woodhaven: A standout in other sports at Woodhaven, Jucha chose to try soccer this spring and didn’t skip a beat. The eldest was the team’s main goaltender and helped Woodhaven win another league title. Along the way, she’s had six shutouts and allowed just four league goals. She is committed to playing volleyball and basketball at Adrian College.
Joanna Mentzer, Huron: Mentzer finished his high school soccer career with the honors of the second all-star team. The senior midfielder finished with four goals and four assists. Defensively, she struggled to neutralize the opposing team in a year the Chiefs have recorded 10 shutouts and allowed more than two goals per game.
Ava Carson, Trenton: Carson came out strong for Trenton in his second season. The district-wide midfielder has scored nine goals and had eight assists.
Olivia Stergiadis, Riverview: Stergiadis won second-team All-Star honors in their junior season at Riverview. The midfielder has scored seven goals and had four assists along the way.
Layla Hamilton, Huron: Hamilton, a junior defenseman, was a dominant force in midfield for Huron. The All-League Honorable Mention helped the Chiefs secure 10 total shutouts, including a win over Huron League champion Grosse Ile and a draw against Downriver League champion Woodhaven.
Leila Gorno, Trenton: Gorno burst onto the high school soccer scene this spring and has had a huge year with Trenton. The rookie finished with an average of 0.68 and recorded a 90 percent save percentage and eight shutouts. She also saw the time on the pitch and scored a goal for Les Troyens.
Arianna Thompson, long distance: Thompson closed his impressive athletic career with first-team all-conference soccer honors. The senior midfielder played a key role for the Chargers in a season where the team won league and district titles and finished 9-3 overall.
Madalyn Dominski, Riverview: Dominski was an all-league second-team selection in what was only his first season. She established herself as a Pirates defender and also contributed two goals and an assist.
Niamh O’Connell, Cabrini: O’Connell, a sophomore shined on the football field in 2021. The All-Catholic winner was on the Monarchs roster as a forward and midfielder. She also competed as a member of Cabrini’s track team this spring and took part in two state qualifying relays.
Sydney Montanbeau, Taylor: Montanbeau was Taylor’s starting goalie this spring and helped lead the team to a winning record. The senior and all-district winner recorded seven shutouts along the way and finished with a cumulative GPA of 1.8.
Chloe Kujat, Allen Park: Only a sophomore, Kujat is one of the many young players who are expected to return next season for Allen Park. The forward has scored 12 goals for the Jaguars this spring and has nine assists.
Alayna Jacobs, Roosevelt: Jacobs served as a leader for Roosevelt this spring in what was his fourth year as a starter. The elder and led the Bears in goal (9). She mainly served as a striker, but also saw time as a midfielder.
Elaine meets in Teed, Cabrini: Teed was one of four Cabrini players who won All-Catholic honors this spring. She was listed as a forward and midfielder on the Monarchs roster. An elite athlete overall, she was also a member of the school’s softball team, which won a regional championship in 2021.
Sarah Wojtylko, Richard: Wojtylko came in force for Richard in his second season. She was the Guardian of the Pioneers and gave the team a lot of hope over the next two years.
Julia Ross, Carlson: Ross was instrumental for Carlson in an impressive season for her and the program. Listed as a defender and forward, the junior was second to the Marauders in goals (10) and has three assists. She scored the game-winning goal in the Marauders’ 1-0 win over Trenton in the district semifinals. Earlier in the year, she scored once in a fierce 2-1 win over Edsel Ford.
Jennifer Nguyen, Richard: Nguyen was solid for Richard in his junior season with the team. She was a midfielder for the Pioneers and is one of several players who are expected to return next year.
Korie Dickson, Flat Rock: Dickson was a leader for Flat Rock this fall and helped guide the team through a rebuilding season. The senior goaltender and winner of the league’s second all-star team made several important saves throughout the year and had two shutouts, including one in the playoffs. She also spent time on the pitch and scored a goal and an assist. She will continue her career at Berea College in Kentucky.
Claire Gonyea, Trenton: Gonyea is one of the many young players who have made a big impact this season with their respective teams in the Downstream region. The freshman midfielder and All-District Award winner scored 10 goals in 2021 and had three assists.
Ileanne Zuniga, Lincoln Park: In only her second season, Zuniga has established herself as a leader for Lincoln Park. She saw the weather as a defender and midfielder this spring and played every minute of every game. She scored two goals and got an assist.
Brooklyn Wagner, Summit: Wagner played an important role for Summit during his last year with the team. The older one was a strong defender of the Dragons. Offensively, she scored six goals and had three assists.
Natalia Sharbo, Taylor: Sharbo was versatile enough to play in several different places during his junior season. The All-District selection scored six goals and helped Taylor win seven shutouts.
Mélanie Chapa, Woodhaven: Chapa, a senior defenseman, helped Woodhaven to seven shutout wins in a year the team won another league title. The senior has been described by Warriors coach Scott Hoye as a “difference maker”. Offensively, she scored a goal along the way.
Alana Harrison, Summit: Harrison was a leader for Summit in his last season with the team. The elder was strong in the Dragons’ goal and along the way made 84 total saves and a shutout.
Nina Kramer-Roja, Taylor Prep: Kramer-Roja played a key role for Taylor Prep this spring. The junior midfielder has scored 10 goals and has collected seven assists along the way.
Kiera Rydzik, Flat Rock: Rydzik ended his high school athletic career with a strong soccer season at Flat Rock. The Senior and All-League Honorable Mention has been described as the team’s “workhorse” by Rams coach Sammi Murphy. She scored three goals and had three assists.
Ariana Cabanas, Melvindale: Cabanas, a junior, took top honors at all conferences this spring at Melvindale. She helped guide the Cardinals through a tough rebuilding season.
