Politics found their way into the 2021 Emmy Awards.

Late night host Stephen Colbert took the stage to present the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, but first joked about Gov. Gavin Newsom’s recent recall election in California.

Colbert said he had the results of the recall vote after a recount was taken for the 2018 winner of the Outstanding Comedy Series category which went to Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”.

Fortunately, after the bogus special vote, Colbert confirmed that the winner was still “Ms. Maisel” and added that it only cost California hundreds of millions of dollars.

Colbert laughed at Newsom, who won his recall election. The vote was called last year mainly because of accusations he mismanaged his state’s response to the coronavirus. He was initially elected governor in 2018.
