21 more people die of influenza in North Carolina, including their first child

RALEIGH, NC (WITN) – Public health officials said last week was the deadliest flu season with 21 new deaths, including the first child.

The new report indicates that this brings to 98 the number of deaths during the influenza season.

Although most deaths involve people aged 65 and older, the Department of Health and Human Services says that a child aged 5 to 17 also died last week.

During the last influenza season, nearly 400 people died.
