28 new cases of COVID-19 have been linked to a recent wedding reception in Millinocket, according to officials at the Millinocket Regional Hospital.

The outbreak in the Katahdin area has officials working to find someone else who may have been in close contact with those who are carriers of the coronavirus.

On August 7, 65 people attended a wedding reception at the Big Moose Inn in Millinocket, according to the Maine CDC.

Millinocket Regional Hospital has confirmed that there are now 28 positive cases linked to the event.

They also say they expect that number to increase as testing continues and pending results arrive.

The CDC says all of the people who tested positive are residents of Maine, but officials did not say if any of the wedding guests were from out of state.

CDC investigators speak with hostel officials to determine details, such as whether the event took place indoors or outdoors.

Up to 50 people can congregate in a shared indoor space, while up to 100 can congregate in outdoor spaces.

The Maine CDC is urging anyone who has attended an event at the Big Moose Inn and who may be showing symptoms of COVID-19 to contact their health care provider immediately.

Symptoms include cough, fever, shortness of breath, fatigue, or body aches, among others.
