Twenty-nine other Mainers have died as health officials on Wednesday reported 836 more cases of the coronavirus across the state.
Wednesday’s report brings the total number of coronavirus cases in Maine to 93,201, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. It is against 92,365 on Tuesday.
Of those, 66,470 were confirmed positive, while 26,731 were classified as “probable cases,” the Maine CDC reported.
Two from Androscoggin County, four from Aroostook County, one from Cumberland County, one from Franklin County, four from Kennebec County, one from Knox County, one from Oxford County, 12 from County of Penobscot, one from Piscataquis County, one from Waldo County and one from York County succumbed to the virus, bringing the statewide death toll to 1,065.
Of these, 13 were men and 16 were women. They were in their thirties (1), fifties (4), 60 (7), 70 years (10) and 80 years or older (7).
The Maine CDC initially reported far fewer new cases and deaths because an IT upgrade interrupted processing of all data for the previous 24 hours, Maine CDC spokesperson Robert Long said on Wednesday.
The number of coronavirus cases diagnosed in the past 14 days statewide is 8,045. This is an estimate of the current number of active cases in the state, as the Maine CDC is no longer tracking recoveries for all patients. This is against 7,823 on Tuesday.
The new statewide case rate on Wednesday was 6.25 cases per 10,000 people, and the statewide total case rate was 696.36.
Maine’s seven-day average for new coronavirus cases is 592.7, down from 596.9 the day before, down from 558.9 a week ago, and up from 383 a month ago. This average peaked on January 14 at 625.3.
Most cases have been detected in Mainers under 20, while Mainers over 80 make up the majority of deaths. More cases have been recorded in women and more deaths in men.
So far, 2,561 Mainers have been hospitalized at some point with COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus. Among them, 166 are currently hospitalized, including 51 in intensive care and 21 on a ventilator. Overall, 60 of the 334 intensive care beds and 223 of the 304 ventilators are available.
As of Wednesday, the total statewide hospitalization rate was 19.13 patients per 10,000 population.
Cases have been reported in Androscoggin (9,941), Aroostook (3,441), Cumberland (20,596), Franklin (1,931), Hancock (2,425), Kennebec (8,880), Knox (1,693), Lincoln ( 1,636), Oxford (4,581), Penobscot (10,948), Piscataquis (1,187), Sagadahoc (1,805), Somerset (3,725), Waldo (2,127), Washington (1,533) and York ( 16,753).
105 additional doses of vaccine were administered over the previous 24 hours. As of Wednesday, 880,779 Mainers are fully vaccinated, or about 74.4% of eligible Mainers, according to the Maine CDC.
New Hampshire on Wednesday reported 396 new cases and five deaths. Vermont reported 94 new cases and no deaths, while Massachusetts reported 1,340 new cases and 21 deaths.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the coronavirus had sickened 43,971,311 people in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and the US Virgin Islands, and caused 705,831 deaths, according to the University. Johns Hopkins Medicine.
