One policeman has been released from the hospital while two others remain.

Three police officers were injured in a possible explosion after being sent to a vacant house.

The incident occurred just after 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, when officers from the South Patrol of the Wichita Kansas Police Department received a call and were then dispatched to check on a vacant house in the McAdams neighborhood of the city, according to the Wichita Police Department (WPD).

Authorities have yet to release an official statement as to why they were called home, who may have made the call or what was reported to police but, according to the Wichita Eagle, the Wichita Police Chief Gordon Ramsay told local media that the owners asked authorities to check the vacant home after seeing that several windows were open, which led them to believe someone might be at inside and that the officers had been given a key to the house to access it.

“After entering the residence, three police officers were injured by a possible explosion of an unknown device,” authorities said in a statement on social media.

The Wichita Police Department said the three officers were immediately taken to an area hospital for treatment while the WPD SWAT team and the bomb squad carried out investigations.

A tweet from the Wichita Police Department said “negotiators are still on site and attempting to negotiate,” but it is not clear who they were negotiating with or why negotiators were needed in the first place.

“One officer has since been released, while the other two remain [in hospital] – one with minor injuries and one in serious but stable condition, ”the WPD said on social media.

Wichita Police Chief Gordon Ramsay said he visited the two officers who remained at the hospital and they were in good spirits after the incident.

The authorities concluded by saying that the situation was contained and that they would provide more information to the public as soon as it was available.
