Three Arizona men were arrested Thursday in Goleta in connection with a robbery hours earlier in Carpinteria, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputies were dispatched around 5:40 a.m. to the Chevron gas station in Via Real and Santa Monica Road in Carpinteria, after a woman reported that she had been robbed by her companions, said Raquel Zick, head of the sheriff’s public information.

The woman was reportedly with three men in a vehicle when she was robbed by them, and they left her behind and fled the scene, Zick said.

About three hours later, an alert citizen who learned of the theft reported to sheriff dispatchers that the suspicious vehicle, which apparently had a flat tire, was in a tire store on the 200 block of South Fairview Avenue, Zick said.

MPs converged on the area and arrested three men without incident.

One of the men was armed with a gun, Zick added.

South Fairview Avenue was closed or shortly after MPs arrested the trio.

By mid-afternoon, the three men – whose names were not yet available – were still being questioned, Zick said, and had not been enrolled in the Santa Barbara County Jail.

Details on the fees they might face were not available.

Zick praised the citizen who alerted MPs to the suspect’s whereabouts, noting that he was staying at a safe distance while relaying the information.
