(WXYZ) – Three Michigan pharmacies are expected to participate in the federal retail pharmacy program for COVID-19 vaccination.

The CDC says the program is a collaboration between the federal government, states and territories, as well as 21 national pharmacy partners and independent pharmacy networks to improve access to COVID-19 vaccination.

The following Michigan pharmacies will receive doses of the vaccine as part of the program during the week of February 8:

  • Rite Aid Corp.
  • LeaderNET and Medicine Shoppe, PSAO of Cardinal Health
  • Meijer Inc.

Partner pharmacies will screen individuals to determine their eligibility for vaccination according to the state’s vaccination plan. They will focus on vaccinating those eligible for vaccination based on criteria selected by the state.

According to the CDC, pharmacy partners were recruited based on their population served and community reach, ability to store vaccines and provide cold chain management, meet data reporting requirements. and to be vaccinated (estimated number of daily doses that each facility is able to administer.)

The CDC worked with states and territories to select the initial pharmacy partners to start the program in their communities.
