ATHENS – Most of Georgia's football matches at Sanford Stadium on Saturday will be focused on our opponent next week, Notre Dame.
The Irish who are fighting in 7th place (1-0) face New Mexico (1-0) in 14:30. game they have the preference of winning by five touchdowns at South Bend.
Notre Dame, like the Bulldogs in the 3rd rank, has areas in which she wants to improve and players she wants to step up.
The Irish got a week off after their 35-17 win over Louisville on September 3rd, and coach Brian Kelly was aggressive with his practices.
"We played, and we had live fights with his, our backup keys," Kelly said at her press conference this week.
"We worked on special situations that I did not think we could do very well, and that we spent a lot of time on them, and you can probably all determine what these situations are."
Here are three things to watch for in the second game of the Irish season and remember when Georgia will host them on September 21st:
Short film
The Irish struggled in short-distance situations in Louisville. Notre Dame was stopped before the first try, she played twice in the third and second runs, as well as in the second and first rounds QB and the third and first inning.
"There were three-thirds and short where we should not have played football, it should have gone on the perimeter," Kelly said on her radio show Thursday, citing QB Ian Book's decision to not be audible.
"There were two-thirds of situations where, a little better, we blocked, a little better worked and we got the first goal."
Offensive / defense base
Kelly said there would be no restraint against New Mexico, but that does not mean that Georgia will see all games coming next week.
"You will execute your attack and your basic defense, (but) do you manage all that you have in your offensive arsenal? No, because sometimes they are not congruent with your opponent," said Kelly during his broadcast of "We will not do everything we do against Georgia against New Mexico.
"I have never really felt that we should remember this part of the game book because we will save that for Georgia," he said. "We are going to be what we are, then next week there will be a lot of other pieces that they will not have seen in a movie we can get out of the library."
Running backs
Notre Dame lost half-offensive Jafar Armstrong as a result of an injury to the abdomen in the win over Louisville. Kelly said at his press conference and radio show he was looking for playmakers to reinforce.
Tony Jones Jr. (5-11, 224) had 110 yards and 15 touchdowns, and Jahmir Smith (5-11, 205) had 8 carries for 24 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Kelly hinted that halfback Kyren Williams (5-9, 205), a 4-star Irishman beaten by Missouri and Iowa for recruitment, could also find work.
"Kyren Williams just needs to play and do some games," said Kelly at the show of his coach.
Notre Dame transferred Avery Davis (5-11, 202, Jr.) into the semi-final rotation, and Kelly said he was a player with "real speed" and pass technique.
