Alabama added 3,147 new COVID-19 cases overnight.

Data from January 13 at 10 a.m. from the Alabama Department of Public Health shows the state has now recorded 410,995 cases of the coronavirus. There are currently 3,076 people hospitalized with the virus in Alabama.

The state also added 187 deaths to bring the total to 5,760. The high total comes a day after 226 deaths were recorded.

The high numbers come after a review of a large number of deaths from ADPH’s Alabama Health Statistics Center. According to ADPH, reviews have been completed on around two-thirds of the deaths and the process is expected to continue for a few more weeks. The review may “result in additional death numbers that are historic and do not reflect recent mortality from COVID-19,” ADPH said.

“Data review is a standard process for ADHD in COVID-19, as well as other reportable diseases. As part of the death declaration process, each death is examined as the files are received and investigations are opened. There may be delays in reporting deaths due to receiving information from hospitals, coroners and other entities that send cases to ADPH, ”the agency said in a statement. “Upon further investigation, some deaths may be removed from the data tally, as there may be duplicate records, deaths that have been reported as COVID-19 but are not attributable to this virus, or in de rare cases, a death may be reported and the person is not deceased. “
