Four Oregon breweries have once again landed among the 50 largest craft beer producers in the United States, and these are the ones you've seen on the grocery shelf for years.
The Deschutes Brewery of Bend brewery continues to produce the largest number of Oregon breweries in sales volume, occupying its 10th place nationwide, as in 2017, according to data released Tuesday by the Brewers Association, the group that follows the industry.
Ninkasi Brewing of Eugene climbs to 35th place, becoming Oregon's second largest brewery. He passed Snape Ales of Newport, who is next in the 36th. Ninkasi in 2017 was 38th and Rogue 32nd.
Full Sail Brewing from Hood River joined Snape to bottom the list this year, but much more dramatically, moving from 29th in 2017 to 44th in 2018.
The largest volume of craft beer sales in the country is still Yuengling & Son of Pennsylvania. Boston Beer (Samuel Adams) of Massachusetts, Sierra Nevada of California, New Belgium Brewing of Colorado and Duvel Moortgat, parent company of Brewery Ommegang breweries of New York, Missouri Brewing Boulevard and Firestone are next. Walker Brewing of California.
The Brewers Association has also released figures for all breweries, of which Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser, 10 Barrel Brewing, Goose Island) is the largest. Next are MillerCoors (Miller, Coors, Henry Weinhard, Hop Valley), Constellation (Ballast Point, Corona, Modelo, Pacifico), Heinekin (Heinekin, Lagunitas) and Pabst Brewing (Pabst Blue Ribbon, Olympia, Rainier).
The Craft Brew Alliance, a brewery group that includes Portland's Widmer Brothers Brewing but is dominated by Kona Brewing of Hawaii, was the 12th largest brewery in the country in terms of sales volume.
In May, the Brewers Association will release the total barrels produced by each brewery, but in December the Oregon Liquor Control Board released the total number of barrels sold in Oregon. Of the four breweries ranked nationally, Deschutes was the first to sell Oregon with more than 66,000 barrels, followed by Ninkasi (third at 50,227 barrels), Full Sail (7th, 22,505), and then Snape ( 12th to 17 939).
