The Pittsburgh Steelers continue their preparation for the Carolina Panthers on Friday night. Since it’s still preseason, head coach Mike Tomlin spoke to reporters again after practice on Tuesday. Even though it was a bit brief, there was still enough to watch the players mentioned by Coach Tomlin during his media time. Remember, these are current players for whom a specific question was asked during the question-and-answer period.
Najee harris
With just one more preseason game to prepare, the 2021 rookies and undrafted free agents should see their first regular-season action in a few weeks. Coach Tomlin was asked what he looks for in any rookie to know the situation is not too bad for them. In his response, he mentioned Najee Harris by the number (22).
“They run towards the competition, not far from it. You’ve seen us work enough to know what it looks like. You never have to look for 22 in competition. Not only is he looking for reps, he’s looking for the most competitive reps, and that’s what you’re looking for. Looking for guys who run towards the competition.
Cam Sutton
The Pittsburgh Steelers still have plenty of questions about how they’re going to handle their high school in 2021. Coach Tomlin was asked if the high school staff deployment was aimed at getting the top five players on the field or if it depended on the moving parts and where Cam Sutton ends up playing.
“A lot of the game is situational, especially when it comes to the net or the backend. And so the best five or six, for the circumstance or situation, and notice I said five or six because in today’s game – situation ball – sometimes it’s five, sometimes six. We have to be versatile. And I think we have enough versatility in our collective skills to allow us to face the twists and turns that these situations bring. “
Kendrick Green
In an interview earlier Tuesday, Steelers third-round pick Kendrick Green spoke about breaking the film over a sack he surrendered in Week 1 of the preseason. Coach Tomlin was asked if he and Green had discussed the situation regarding the specific game where he gave up the sack.
“I’m going to leave this between him and me.” I don’t talk about our business in this forum, but I’m glad he’s properly motivated by his tape because our tape is our walking, talking, and breathing resume. That’s all we have as professionals. And so it’s less about what we say and more about what we do and the parts that we leave on tape matter.
In a follow-up question, Coach Tomlin was asked how Green was doing.
” He is doing very well.
Stephane Tuitt
Defensive end Stephon Tuitt is one player eagerly awaiting an update on his progress in most of the Steelers’ Nation. Coach Tomlin was asked about Tuitt’s progress. In the only way Coach Tomlin can, he gave the exact same answer he did to the previous question.
” He is doing very well.
