KALISPELL – A COVID-91 outbreak is reported at an assisted living center in Flathead.
Kalispell regional health officials said four residents tested positive for COVID-19 last week and had been isolated and closely monitored.
After further testing over the weekend, 40 residents of Brendan House tested positive for COVID-19.
Four of them are in hospital, while the others remain in isolation at the Brendan House facility, according to KRH spokesperson Mellody Sharpton.
She added in a press release that “Brendan House staff are committed to staying in close contact with the families of the residents and have kept them updated on the situation since last week.
“The health, safety and well-being of our residents and staff at Brendan House remain our top priority. Brendan House will continue to follow all CDC recommendations for infection prevention, ”a press release read.
Increased isolation precautions have been put in place in addition to existing efforts to screen employees, restrict visitors, carry out additional hand hygiene and PPE.
Additional breakdown is in place while additional resources have been brought in to help with care, staffing and other daily tasks, according to Sharpton.
Brendan House has applied the following preventive practices since March 13, 2020:
- Encourage the use of telehealth visits for residents.
- Observe strict visitor restrictions at the facility.
- Screen all employees and essential visitors daily before entering the facility.
- Provide clean masks and eye protection daily to all employees and essential visitors prior to entering the facility.
- Use appropriate PPE to protect all employees and essential visitors.
- Practice safe donning and doffing of PPE by all employees and essential visitors.
- Social distancing within the facility: Cancel large gatherings, dinners and activities in the common room and community events.
- Provide thorough and frequent cleaning and disinfection in the facility.
- Practice good hand hygiene: Wash your hands thoroughly and often for at least 20 seconds.
- Training and orientation of employees and residents on infection prevention protocols and procedures.
