42 people quarantined amid COVID-19 outbreak at assisted living facility in San Antonio, officials confirm

SAINT ANTHONY – Forty-two people are now in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19 at an assisted living facility in San Antonio, confirms a management company at the facility.

Positive cases were reported among 31 residents and 11 staff members last week at Heartis San Antonio Assisted Living and Memory Care in the far north.

All 31 residents are fully vaccinated; four staff members are fully vaccinated, three have received their first doses and four have not been vaccinated, officials said.

In Bexar County, as of Wednesday, July 21, the city’s COVID-19 records show the seven-day average of new cases is 363.

Although local hospital stress is rated “mild,” the city’s website also says the level of risk of contracting the virus is “getting worse.”

Heartis San Antonio said it tests all staff and residents weekly, and they also perform daily health checks.

The first employees to test positive for COVID-19 “showed symptoms at work and were immediately sent home,” officials said.

All of those who tested positive for COVID-19 are out of the assisted living facility and have been moved to a nearby partner facility, officials said.

“Our COVID-19 mitigation protocols go beyond federal CDC and Brexar County Health Department requirements for long-term care facilities.
