SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah increased by 487 on Tuesday, with nine additional deaths and 20,268 additional vaccinations reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.
Two of those deaths occurred before February 9, but are still under investigation by the state medical examiner’s office, the health department said. There are now about 16,293 active cases of COVID-19 in Utah, according to state data.
The seven-day rolling average number of positive cases per day is now 603, according to the health department. The rate of positive tests per day for this period of time reported with the “people over people” method is now 10.5%. The positive test rate per day averaged over seven days calculated with the “test-by-test” method is now 4.9%.
There are 213 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 92 in intensive care units, state data shows. About 67% of all intensive care unit beds in Utah are occupied Tuesday, including about 71% of intensive care beds at the state’s 16 referral hospitals. About 46% of non-ICU hospital beds are now occupied in Utah.
A total of 741,297 vaccines have been administered in the state, up from 721,029 on Monday. Of these, 263,173 are second doses of the vaccine.
The new figures indicate a 0.1% increase in positive cases since Monday. Of the 2,214,506 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 16.8% have tested positive for COVID-19. The total number of tests carried out since the start of the pandemic is now 3,828,322, up 14,540 from Monday. Of those, 5,582 are tests of people who had never been tested before for COVID-19, according to state data.
The nine deaths reported on Tuesday include:
- Davis County man aged 65 to 84 who was not hospitalized when he died
- A woman from Salt Lake County who was over 85 living in a long-term care facility
- Salt Lake County woman who was between 65 and 84 and was hospitalized after her death
- Summit County man who was between 45 and 64 and was hospitalized when he died
- Tooele County man aged 65 to 84 hospitalized when he died
- Utah County man over 85 living in long-term care facility
- Utah County man aged 65 to 84 hospitalized when he died
- Washington County man aged 65 to 84 hospitalized when he died
- Weber County woman aged 45 to 64 admitted to hospital after death
Tuesday’s totals give Utah 371,979 total confirmed cases, with 14,753 total hospitalizations and 1,949 total deaths from the disease. According to the Department of Health, approximately 353,737 cases of COVID-19 in Utah are now considered recovered.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox is expected to deliver his weekly pandemic report at 11 a.m. Thursday, according to his office.
