Forty-nine people fully vaccinated against COVID-19 have died through July 12 in New Jersey, according to news reports.
Ministry of Health spokesperson Donna Leusner told NJ Advance Media Wednesday that more than half of those people had at least one underlying medical condition.
All of these people were over 50; 30 were over 80 years old 12 were between 65 and 79 years old; and six were between 50 and 64, reports NJ.com.
Deaths represent about one in 100,000 fully vaccinated residents, which means vaccines are about 99.999% effective in preventing COVID-related deaths, NJ Communicable Disease Department medical director Ed Lifshitz said.
Chief Medical Advisor of the White House Dr Anthony Fauci said that more than 99% of people who died from COVID-19 last month in the United States were not vaccinated.
