YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Nick Bosa's defense has lost its availability on Thursday for its 49ers recall.
Bosa, the No. 2 pick in the overall selection this year, missed a second day of training after worsening an ankle injury during his NFL debut Sunday in Tampa Bay.
The official status of Bosa will only be known on Friday, when the 49ers will have to list the projected availability of the players. The 49ers will hold a training session on Friday before flying to Cincinnati.
OTHER HEALTH UPDATES
– Offensive back Tevin Coleman (ankle) stayed on the outside and the 49ers still have not promoted Jeff Wilson within the coaching team, what they should do Saturday.
The Bengals, running back Joe Mixen, also missed a second consecutive practice with a sprained ankle.
– Trent Taylor wide receivers (foot) and Jalen Hurd (rear) remain on the outside. Taylor has not practiced since foot surgery a month ago and Hurd has not participated in a practice or game since the August 19 show in Denver.
– Linebacker Mark Nzeocha resumed training after falling ill on Wednesday. He intercepted and blocked a punt against the Bucs.
– Defensive back Jimmie Ward is again training with a cast on his right hand, but Tarvarius Moore should leave safely.
SCOUTING REPORT ON JIMMY
The Bengals' freshman coach, Zac Taylor, knows something about the quarterbacks. In 2005-06, he was Super Bowl coach at the Super Bowl. He saw quarterback Bengals Andy Dalton score for a record 418 yards in the loss to Seattle at the opening of the season on Sunday.
What does Taylor think of 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo? His answer:
"I have always been impressed by his pitcher job, returning to eastern Illinois. It's exactly what it looks like. He plays with a good base, he can throw under several angles of different arms, strong arm, precise. You have really seen how many games he has played, he has had a lot of good times and there is something to be encouraged if you are the 49ers. We certainly have a difficult task on our hands. "
LYNCH SQUASHES QB DRAMS
General Manager John Lynch ran for Garoppolo's defense in an interview with The Game about the job security of the quarterback after the start of the season:
"I can tell you that we really think about Nick Mullens very well. We also think a lot about C.J. Beathard. But we believe a lot in Jimmy Garoppolo, and our Jimmy quarterback, "said Lynch.
"It was perfect the other day? No, but he brings a lot to the table and our team has a lot of confidence in him. And we certainly do. And we work hard to try to be cleaner and to be cleaner in the team, and so is Jimmy. But he is our quarterback right now, and we are very happy that this is the case. "
