Fifty-six new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed today, which includes cases documented over the weekend. Two previous positive cases were reassigned due to clarification of an individual’s county of residence and a specimen that required retesting. That brings the total to 784 county residents who have tested positive for the virus.
Humboldt’s internal data shows the county’s case rate to be above 7.0, and the county is expected to drop to purple or “widespread” tomorrow as part of the “Blueprint for a Safer Economy”. the state. Humboldt County health worker Dr Teresa Frankovich said it would have an immediate effect on areas, especially restaurants, gyms and places of worship, which would need to operate outdoors only .
“This was unfortunately expected, as we have seen a sharp increase in the number of cases throughout the community,” said Dr Frankovich. “Our goal is to stabilize and then reduce COVID-19 activity throughout Humboldt, in order to get back to a less restrictive level and protect our healthcare system.”
Public Health is changing its contact investigation process to meet the demands of the rapidly increasing number of cases. The Joint Information Center will publish information on this process later today.
