6 grocery stores that already offer the COVID-19 vaccine

The government partnered with 11 grocery chains across the country in November 2020 to offer a free COVID-19 vaccine to everyone in America. Since then, two vaccines have been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration, and now several supermarkets and pharmacies in your neighborhood are already administering them to the first batch of patients.

They currently have 2,200 pharmacies and 220 clinics in 35 states.

The Walmart and Sam’s Club locations in New Mexico began administering the Moderna vaccine to healthcare workers between mid to late December 2020, the chain’s chief medical officer Dr Tom Van Gilder said. Rural areas have been given priority, but pharmacists are also included in the first round.

Like Kroger, Walmart says it is in talks with other state officials to make the vaccine available there, not only to people considered Priority 1A, but to essential workers, first responders, people. with high risk health problems and older Americans. in priority 1B and priority 1C. The Boise, Idaho-based chain gave the first doses of the vaccine to healthcare workers as part of phase 1A at a clinic in Alaska, it said in a Dec. 23 statement. HEB is already requesting more Moderna vaccine from the state of Texas after distributing or scheduling the distribution of the entire first batch, the company said on Jan.3.

“We are awaiting another vaccine allocation from the state of Texas so that we can continue to vaccinate health care providers and begin offering vaccines to those in phase 1B,” according to a statement on the company’s website. “Once we have the supply, we’ll activate a scheduling tool on our website so people can make an appointment.”

The first beneficiaries of Hy-Vee’s Moderna COVID-19 vaccine were about 100 residents and staff at a long-term care facility in Fairmont, Minnesota, the company announced in late December. Soon after, several dozen healthcare workers from Dallas County, Iowa were next, and the chain continues to administer the vaccine to others in the area and in Polk County.

The chain plans to distribute the vaccine to more than 270 pharmacies in eight states, including Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
