MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Dozens of people learned this week that a mistake had been made with their first COVID vaccines, and now they don’t know what will follow.
Dick Cecchini received his dose on Tuesday at a Hy-Vee pharmacy in Mankato, more than an hour from his home in Lakeville. He received a phone call from Hy-Vee the next morning to tell him of a problem.
The pharmacy says 62 patients received the first doses of Pfizer vaccine which were diluted with sterile water instead of the saline solution supplied by Pfizer.
“We don’t know anything. Hang tight. We will contact you, ”recalls Cecchini.
He learned on Friday that there was no reason for medical concern. Questions remain about protecting Cecchini and others from COVID.
“Does the first shot feel good?” What happens after the second hit? Do you have the same coverage? »Cecchini said.
Hy-Vee doesn’t know that yet. Cecchini contacted Pfizer personally. He says they don’t know either.
“If Pfizer doesn’t know, who knows?” Said Cecchini. “I am in limbo.”
Hy-Vee says regardless of the outcome, the 62 patients won’t have to seek or wait for another appointment.
“I’m pretty good at tolerating mistakes because I’m old and made a million myself. How fast do you solve it? »Cecchini said.
The Minnesota Department of Health says the 62 patients are unlikely to have to restart their vaccination cycles. MDH is awaiting confirmation on this from Pfizer and the CDC.
