7 people injured after large tree branch burst and crash in Waikiki

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Teams are responding to a large tree branch collapse in Waikiki that has injured at least seven people, four of them in serious condition.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said a large banyan branch crashed around 12:15 p.m. at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

Authorities said seven people suffered multiple injuries, including serious head injuries and multiple grazes.

EMS said four of the seven patients were treated and taken to a nearby hospital.

Among those seriously injured were a 50-year-old man, a 22-year-old woman, a 28-year-old woman and another woman whose age was not disclosed.

The other three were assessed on the spot and refused to be transported.

Teams have since closed the area as an investigation continues into the cause of the branch’s downfall.
