BATON ROUGE – A state police unit was riddled with bullets after the soldier inside was shot during a chase from Ascension Parish in East Baton Rouge early Saturday morning.
The situation grew more violent near the intersection of Hoo Shoo Too and Tiger Bend, where the soldier and the suspect shot each other before the suspect fled.
The suspect was in camouflage uniform, a concern given the heavily forested area where he spent the morning in hiding.

From nine o’clock there was a big manhunt for the camouflaged suspect. An eyewitness reported seeing the man coming out of the woods with a weapon, looking for a route in an attempt to continue to flee.
No one involved was injured.
How it started – initial information from the national police:
A soldier attempted to stop a blue Chevrolet Silverado on LA Hwy 42 east of Jefferson Hwy. The driver refused to stop and shot the Trooper.
The soldier fired back and continued to chase the suspect over Jefferson Hwy to Hoo Shoo Too Road, where more shots were exchanged. The suspect fled the scene on Hoo Shoo Too Road at the Tiger Bend Bridge.
The soldiers say the suspect is a white man and is considered armed and dangerous. The soldiers also believe the suspect is still in the area.
A search is underway there for the suspect.
