While we can do our best to ward off memory loss by ensuring the health of our brains by taking preventive measures such as a balanced diet, exercise and even researching our goal, the researchers note that most of us will see the memory deteriorate with age.
That's why this study is so incredible: it sheds a promising light on the future of brain health and memory recovery. Previously, there was no evidence that memory impairment could be saved, but now it is hoped to be able to do so with this type of brain stimulation.
And while we believe that these discoveries have a lot of potential, we reserve some of our optimism for later tests that use this type of brain stimulation. Voss himself said that he was not sure of the duration of the memory enhancement effects and that his next test would involve stimulating the brain of people with a stage early Alzheimer's disease for longer periods.
In other words, there is still no definitive and widely available treatment for the existing memory loss. But it's a step in the right direction and we can not wait to see what's next.
The study is published in Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
