Apple has a history of what some may call anti-competitive practices. In the past, Apple brought a new feature to iOS that was basically the same as the one users could get with various apps already on the platform. The consequences for these existing applications have always been troublesome, ranging from users naturally leaving the native iOS option or Apple actively killing these apps.
It now seems like Apple is again comfortable and this time with applications designed to limit screen time or strengthen parental controls. According to a new report, Apple has begun to remove or restrict applications shortly after announcing the features of time control, downtime and control of applications made to iOS 12. Since, Apple took action against 11 of the top 17 applications in these categories. an unknown number of small apps with similar features. Some of the application manufacturers have removed application applications without warning from the App Store and some of them, including parental control features, have been violated. the App Store for years.
As a result, many developers have been forced to remove application features and users have been forced to try to find alternatives or to use native Apple options. However, people interviewed by The New York Times said that native Apple features were often more complex to configure and did not offer the same level of control as third-party applications. Apple's options do not allow granular options to limit the use of apps and its parental controls are easy to use for kids.
Apple has already been sued for anti-competitive practices on the App Store and a case is even pending before the US Supreme Court, claiming that the Apple App Store's control constituted a monopoly. It's hard to say if anything will change though.
