A third grade student from a primary school in East Boston has been tested positive for mumps, authorities said Friday.
In an email to the community of James Otis Elementary School, Principal Paula Cerqueira-Goncalves said, "We do not think the student has been in close contact with students at our school. who are not vaccinated. It is important to note that mumps can not be transmitted from one person to another through close contact. "
City and state policies require all students to provide proof of vaccination against mumps, measles and rubella.
