As many people enjoy hot summer days staying in the sun for as long as possible, for others, it may mean locking yourself in to avoid the dreaded hay fever.
The mere thought of sitting in a garden or park can bring people suffering from hay fever into a sneeze. Although many drugs claim to help reduce its effects, it seems that there is still no complete cure.
In addition to the usual antihistamine tablets, nasal sprays, eye drops and everything else, each year new claims state a home remedy that completely cures hay fever.
While summer is beginning to lift your head once again, so are some interesting home remedies for hay fever.
Goran Pavlovic went to Facebook to explain his own treatment, which essentially consists of pricking himself with nettles once a week. He says that since he started doing it three years ago, he has not felt the effects of hay fever at all.
Goran wrote:
All my life, I've been suffering from hay fever. I'm pretty shocked [sic] to death every summer. Then, a few years ago, an old man (a crazy old man according to my wife) told me to try nettles.
By and large, as soon as spring begins, he tells me, and that the first nettles have sprouted, pick a heap and sting me with it. Do this once a week until the end of the fall. Apparently, my immune system would focus on nettles and forget about pollen.
To the horror of my wife and the amusement of other park and forest walkers, I quickly started the "therapy". This is my hand in the bush nettles 🙂 And here it has worked … I have no problem pollen for 3 years now …
So there you have it. I just wanted to share with you my experience. Just in case someone would be interested in using herbs for medicinal purposes …
And as the law requires, here's the warning: do not do it at home
Although it may seem alternative at best, there is a science behind the theory of nettle. It is thought that being bitten by nettles reduces the amount of histamine in the body caused by allergies, Cambridgeshire Live reports.
The ingestion of nettles can reduce the symptoms of hay fever because they are rich in iron, vitamin C and calcium, which works as a "relays" when you feel exhausted.
Perhaps a little bit of nettle tea could be better than sting yourself.
