INDIANAPOLIS – With the 2019 NFL draft now over, the Indianapolis Colts have regained their independence.

The team today announced the signing of veteran running back Spencer Ware.

In other formations, the Colts waived safety, Isaiah Johnson and defensive tackle DeShawn Williams, and released wide receiver James Wright.

Ware, 27, is a LSU product of 5 feet 10 feet and 229 pounds. He was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the sixth round of the NFL draft in 2013, but was suffering from an ankle injury that ended his season after playing two games and recording three scopes.

The Seahawks would release him the following year in the final cuts, then be signed by the Kansas City Chiefs. He had an impressive first year in Kansas City as a substitute for Jamaal Charles. He has played 11 games with two starts and 72 attempts for 403 yards – for a solid average of 5.6 yards per run – and six touchdowns.

Ware's training season was in 2016. He took part in 14 games. He made 214 attempts for 921 yards (4.3 yards per run) with three touchdowns while adding 33 receptions for 447 yards and two goals in the air.

Ware, however, would suffer from a knee injury ending the season the next preseason. Last year, he returned in 13 games with two starts and carried the ball 51 times for 246 yards, averaging 4.8 yards per run, with two touchdowns, with 23 receptions for 224 yards.

In 40 games with 18 starts, Ware has accumulated 340 rushing attempts for 1,580 yards (4.6 yards average per run) with 11 touchdowns, as well as 59 receptions for 676 yards and two points in the passing game.

Ware immediately adds a veteran presence to the semifinal and talented Colts playroom, which includes Marlon Mack (third year), Nyheim Hines (second year), Jordan Wilkins (second year) and Jonathan Williams (fourth year) ).

Ware is the third free agent outside of what the Colts have signed this season off, and joins wide receiver Devin Funchess and defender Justin Houston.
