Facebook Messenger allows you to give family names to friends – here's how

It's one of the most popular messaging apps, where millions of people chat with friends and family.

Despite its immense popularity, Facebook Messenger has several hidden features that you may not know.

One of the most fun features is the ability to assign nicknames to your contacts.

Facebook explained, "James Foggin? The fog dog. Saskia? Sassy pants. The list continues.

"Sometimes the full name of Facebook does not suit the person, but Messenger has a solution."

How to assign nicknames on Facebook Messenger

1. Open a conversation with the contact you want to assign a nickname to.

2. Tap the information icon at the top right of the screen.

3. Select nicknames

4. Tap the contact name to enter a new nickname.

However, before you start editing the names of your contacts, keep in mind.

If you assign a nickname, the contact will see it in the chat history. Do not shock anyone!
