Epic continues to loot Steam exclusives

[ad_1]

In context: In its war for content with Valve, Epic Store continues to whistle the exclusives (programmed or not) of Steam. Tim Sweeney insisted that this would continue until Valve lowered his commission rate to a competitive level, but Valve seems reluctant to give up his cash cow.

Epic continues to nibble Steam by entering into exclusive agreements with publishers. His latest sensors are Ghost Recon Breakpoint from Ubisoft and Outer Wilds from independent developer Mobius Digital.

The choice of Ubisoft to release the latest Ghost Recon game exclusively via Epic Store and U-Play is not so shocking. He recently announced that he would switch from Steam to Epic in Divisions 2 and Anno 1800, while respecting pre-orders placed in the Valve Shop.

"More and more distribution platforms are struggling to get quality content," said Yves Guillemot, General Manager of Ubisoft, about the move. "Thanks to this agreement, we have seen an opportunity to increase the visibility of players in our own store, while supporting a partner who greatly values our games and offers significantly better conditions."

Epic's 12% commission proved to be far more interesting than Valve's 30% reduction for obvious reasons. However, small developers also benefit from Epic's support for "Marketing Commitments, Development Financing and Revenue Guarantees".

The developer of Outer Wilds, Mobius Digital, said in an update:[We welcome] Useful partnerships with Annapurna Interactive, Xbox and Epic to support and run our small studio long enough for the game to come with the current level of quality. "

The Epic / Valve feud shows no sign of stopping at this point. Last month, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney tweeted on the tweet that he would stop buying exclusive products when the Steam Store cut would be reduced to 12%. Valve seems to be up to the challenge, but we'll see how it goes as Epic continues to sign exclusive deals.

If Valve is forced to compete with Epic and reduce his commissions by more than 50%, he may have to start playing games again and finally give his fans Half-Life 3.
