The paper by Paul Haggis and Dan Krauss 5Bplay at Cannes in special projection–seeks to shed light on the story of pioneering caregivers of the San Francisco General Hospital, who faced the AIDS crisis at the height of fear and paranoia as the virus recorded the most serious consequences. The archive images from Room 5B that interweave in new interviews with those present were a heartbreaking tale of heroism on behalf of patients and caregivers, as the world struggled to deal with the AIDS epidemic.
"We started to imagine a movie that would allow viewers to be part of the band in 1983 at the height of the AIDS crisis," Krauss told the Deadline studio in Cannes. "And when we realized we had this incredible opportunity – that unseen story sitting right in front of us, just 15 miles from where we were sitting – it was an electrifying moment."
The document, released June 14 in the United States, will support the continuation of the fight against AIDS (RED), by donating a portion of the net proceeds to the Global Fund. Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who represented the doc in Cannes, joined Krauss in the studio to share his support.
"I come from a family of doctors," said Chopra Jonas. "My grandmother was a nurse, I know what it takes. I saw the balance sheet. "
Chopra Jonas addressing Krauss said, "Your film, Dan, requires you to sit down and say, 'What did I do for humanity? Did I do something selfless? 'Because [the caregivers] does something so massive. It really mobilizes you to feel like, "Oh, my God. I need to do more.
