Extraterrestrial News: ET belief will soon replace faith in GOD – shock claim | Science | New

More than half of Americans believe in a god, this figure being slightly lower for those who believe in extraterrestrials. A professor, author of a new book titled American Cosmic, says that a belief in extraterrestrials could replace religious beliefs. The book, written by Diana Pasulka, a professor at the University of North Carolina, explains why humans have chosen to believe in the supernatural and explain how we use the gods and extraterrestrials to explain what is inexplicable.

In an interview with Vox, Professor Pasulka explained how the paradigm evolved from one to the other.

She said it was because no evidence of God had been discovered in human history, while an extraterrestrial life could one day be confirmed.

Professor Pasulka said, "I am a historian of Catholicism, for example, and what I see when I communicate with members of Catholic communities is that they believe that Jesus walks on water and that the apparitions of the Virgin Mary are true.

"But there is something different about the UFO story. We have people here who are real scientists, like Ellen Stofan, the former chief scientist of NASA, who are willing to go on television and make announcements such as, "We are going to find an extraterrestrial life."

"Now she's not talking exactly about intelligent alien life, but it's not the number of people who interpret it.

"She says we are going to find life, habitable planets, and so on. This gives this type of religiosity a much stronger bite than traditional religions, which rely on faith in things that are invisible and impossible to demonstrate.

"But the belief that UFOs and extraterrestrials are potentially true and potentially potentially proven is a particularly powerful story for those who believe in it.

"Is it right to call it a new form of religion? I think so."
