We had a first glimpse of Google's improved gesture navigation in Android Q Beta 3, but we were missing something. The rotation lock button that we loved so much in Android Pie was not found. In the new beta 4, Google has added a new gesture rotation button. Although it seems a bit messy right now.

The new gesture navigation in Q is very iPhone-y, but it's probably better when you engage in gestures. Getting rid of this giant black bar at the bottom of the screen is a win, but the screen rotation button was not found. This button appears when auto rotate is off, which allows you to manually rotate the screen when you switch the phone between portrait and landscape. The new button works the same way, but it appears in a different place.

In beta 4, Google added a small floating button over the navigation area (see above). In applications that support gesture navigation, you should be able to see the complete button. Currently, it is often cut by the smallest black bar. It still works well, though. You can press to manually rotate your screen when auto rotate is disabled. It's nice to see that this feature will not be left to dust when Google implements the new gestures.
