This dietary supplement could cause miscarriage, warns the FDA

This warning concerns dietary supplements containing vinpocetine.

According to new research from the FDA, this ingredient can harm your unborn baby or even cause miscarriage.

If you currently have supplements at home, that's what you need to look for on the labels. Vinpocetine can be sold alone or in combination with other ingredients. Vinpocetine may also be referred to as:

* Minor vinca extract
* Lesser periwinkle extract
* Common periwinkle extract

So what is the use of the synthetic compound used? According to health officials, vinpocetine is often marketed for uses including improved memory, concentration, increased energy and weight loss.
