GROVE CITY, Ohio – Health officials in Ohio said 10 people have now been diagnosed with legionellosis during an outbreak in a recently opened hospital near Columbus.
The Franklin County Health Department said on Tuesday that its number was over seven. One of those patients died Sunday.
The Mount Carmel Health System says the hospital is working with health officials to identify the source of the bacteria in Mount Carmel Grove City.
State health officials said the first patient diagnosed with the legionnaire was admitted to hospital on April 29, the day after it was opened.
People are infected with a serious form of pneumonia by inhalation of water droplets in the air containing Legionella bacteria.
The Mount Carmel system was scrutinized after it was discovered that a doctor had prescribed excessive doses of painkillers to patients who died in his other hospitals.
