The remains of Day, 76, were found on April 4 at his home in the city of Phoenix, in southern Oregon, but investigators were not confident enough to identify the corpse before the Thursday, the state police of Oregon announced.

Due to the condition of the corpse, investigators were unable to use dental records or DNA fingerprints to identify him. They decided Thursday that the remains had been found by Day's thanks to "an investigation, evidence and other information," police said in a statement.

Day was one of the first cast members of "The Mickey Mouse Club", the 1950s television variety show aimed at kids. He appeared on the first two seasons of the series, according to a website dedicated to the program.
