KENOSHA COUNTY – A second case of mumps was diagnosed in an inmate at the Kenosha County Detention Center, the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department announced on Friday.

The sheriff's officials stated that the detainee was housed in the "isolated housing area" and was immediately placed in medical isolation.

The diagnosis of mumps was confirmed by the Kenosha County Health Division.

The first case of mumps was announced on June 4th.

Sheriff officials said they are working with health officials to coordinate the rapid delivery and distribution of MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine to employees at the Kenosha County Detention Center and to the inmate population identified as having lodged or confirmed direct contact with the two inmates diagnosed with mumps.

With respect to the first case, sheriff officials stated that the inmate at KCDC was symptomatic of an infectious viral illness, had been transferred to another institution and was undergoing treatment. Precautions were immediately taken and the dormitory where the detainee was held was placed in isolation.

Mumps is spread through direct contact with saliva or respiratory droplets from the mouth, nose or throat.
