SpaceX will save millions of dollars per launch if it can get used to catching half car refasters before they immerse themselves in the ocean. Saltwater can cause havoc on sensitive components of the nose, and capturing them before reaching the ocean can reuse them without too much extra work.
We have not yet seen the company launch a used fairing (or "proven in flight", as SpaceX says so well), but now that it has one, that day may not be so far.
