A 12-year-old girl killed a man and a dog while her father had taught her to drive with a 2-year-old child at the back

A 12-year-old girl toppled and killed a man and his dog while his father was trying to teach him to drive with a two-year-old child to the rear, police said.

Tomás Mejía Tol is now the subject of homicide charges through criminal negligence and endangering a child after his SUV Ford Explorer hit Enrique Vazquez, 47, who was walking his three dogs.

According to the police, Meija's daughter was driving to practice driving – and she pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.

Mr. Vazquez died on the spot in Houston, Texas on Thursday, and one of his dogs died later.

Witnesses said they saw police officers subject the girl to a sobriety test in the field after the accident.

A woman told ABC13: "They did it like she was drunk. We wondered why they would do this test on her if she was like a teenager. She's not supposed to be drunk or anything. "

Sean Teare, head of the vehicle crime unit at the Harris County Attorney's Office, told NBC News that Meija had taught her daughter how to drive and that he was in the passenger seat at the time .

According to documents from the Harris County Attorney's Office, Meija would have allowed the child to "drive a vehicle without a driver's license and without driving experience".

He must appear in court on Monday. The neighbors say that the girl is at home with the rest of her family.
