SAN JOSE, CA – San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) Executive Director Doug Wilson announced the following additions to the shark monitoring service.
Longtime sports executive and former Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) Managing Director Ned Colletti (@realnedcolletti) will begin his first season as a professional scout with the Sharks and will focus primarily on American Hockey League scouting (@TheAHL) and the National Hockey League (@NHL) levels.
"Ned has extensive experience in professional sports and talent assessment and will bring a new perspective to the assessment process of our organization," Wilson said. "It was a unique opportunity to add someone from Ned's experience to our staff."
Born in Chicago, where he attended the Chicago Blackhawks religiously while growing up, Colletti worked in Major League Baseball (@MLB) for nearly 40 years and has become one of the most awarded leaders in the last 20 years.
He led the Dodgers as General Manager for nine seasons, leading the team to five appearances in the playoffs, including three in the National League championship series. The five appearances after the season of his tenure were equivalent to the best nine-year period in the history of the Los Angeles franchise. During his nine years as General Manager, no National League general manager has won more games than Colletti.
Before working in Los Angeles, he began his baseball career with his team in the city, the Chicago Cubs (@Cubs), where he worked for 13 seasons. He left Chicago in 1994 and spent 11 years with the San Francisco Giants (@SFGiants), where he contributed to change and the creation of a winning culture, primarily as Deputy Director General.
Jon Hull (@HullHockey) joins the Sharks scouting department as amateur scout covering the US Hockey League (USHL) @USHL), having been President of Hockey Operations and General Manager of Lincoln Stars (@LincolnStars) of the USHL from 2014 to 2019.
"Jon had a successful career as a general manager in the USHL, including helping to develop players like Josef Korenarand we are excited to add their expertise and knowledge to our amateur testing service, "said Wilson.
During his tenure with the Lincoln Stars, the team scored 130-148-23 with two appearances in the playoffs. After the 2015-16 season, the second year of his career at the helm of the Stars, Hull was named USHL 's general manager of the year after the team took part in the playoffs for the first time in three years.
Prior to joining the Lincoln Stars, Hull was Deputy General Manager and Director of Player Personnel for the Muskegon Lumberjacks (@ MuskegonJacks) of the USHL for the 2013-14 season, with the team registered for 30-25-5.
Hull, a native of Kingston, Ontario, currently resides in Illinois with his wife, Stefanie, and their three children, Carter, Kendall and Kamryn.
After 23 years of professional hockey, Tomi Kallio joins San Jose as a Sharks scout for Finland. Most recently, he was director of screening for TPS in the Finnish Elite League.
"Tomi has had a long and successful career as a player and we know he will translate that experience by appealing to the talents of the European leagues," said Wilson.
Kallio was drafted 81st by the Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) in the 1995 NHL Draft, before being claimed by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1999 NHL Draft. He played 140 games in the NHL from 2000 to 2003, recording 24 goals and 31 assists, with the Atlanta Thrashers, the Columbus Blue Jackets (@ BlueJacketsNHL) and the Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers).
Tomi played from 1995 to 2018 in several European leagues, including Liiga, the best Finnish hockey league, and the Swedish Hockey League, formerly the Swedish Elite League. He won the Liiga Championship with TPS in 1999 and 2000, as well as the Swedish League Hockey League three times – twice with Frolunda HC (2003, 2005) and once with Vaxjo Lakers HC (2015).
Kallio represented Finland nine times at the World Championships, winning three silver medals (1999, 2001, 2007) and two bronze medals (2000, 2006). In addition, he was a member of the Finland team at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He currently resides in Turku, Finland, with his wife, Sini, and his two children, Wilmer and Valtter.
