Have you opted for a more meatless diet to reduce your risk of heart disease? According to today's headlines, you're still screwed. You can not die from a heart attack or ischemia, but the cold, icy hand of death always comes to you via an increased risk of stroke. Where is it?!?!
Of course not. How can I know? I know because I actually read those damn articles. I even took a quick look at the British Medical Journal report that spawned all these crazy articles with hyperbolic titles. It's amazing how much the ability to read and a basic mastery of mathematics can help you understand things.
In a research study conducted at Oxford University, 48,188 people with a varied diet and no history of heart disease were followed for 18 years, which is enough time for their arteries harden and their bodies slowly deteriorate into a myriad of distractions and exciting ways. Out of that huge group of subjects tested, approximately 2,800 developed heart disease and 1,100 suffered stroke. In a sample of 1,000 people, people on a vegan, vegetarian or pescatarian diet had ten less cases of heart disease than omnivores, but only three more cases of stroke.
So, if you follow a herbal diet to reduce your health risks, you can rest easy. Just remember not to get upset because unnecessary stress can be a very bad thing for your heart.
