PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Health Services announced Tuesday that there had been three cases of respiratory illness related to vaping in the state.
All three cases occurred in Maricopa County and resulted in hospitalization, but the affected people were released, the agency said.
Cara Christ, director of ADHS, said KTAR News 92.3 FM Earlier this month, the agency was investigating whether the state had knowledge of cases.
On Tuesday, 36 states and territories reported 380 cases of vaping-related illness, including six deaths nationwide.
"We are working with our county and federal partners to identify the cause of this very serious disease," Christ said in a press release.
She said it was important for parents to talk to their children about the risks associated with vaping products.
"If your child has already tried vaping and is now having symptoms, see a doctor immediately," she said.
Symptoms include shortness of breath, cough, chest pain, nausea and fatigue.
Doctors and health officials are suggesting that people move away from all vaping products until the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey establishes exactly what is causing the disease. sickness.
