PROVIDENCE, R I: Rhode Island has announced that it will launch a second round of aerial mosquito sprays in response to the increased risk of equine encephalitis in the east.
The departments of public health and environmental management announced Thursday the start of the spraying of two targeted areas on 23 September.
This decision comes after state officials confirmed Tuesday that at least three human cases of the mosquito-borne virus had been confirmed this season, including a 6-year-old girl.
A target area includes the entire West Warwick, as well as Cranston, Warwick, East Greenwich, Greenwich West, Coventry and Scituate.
The departments claim that the other area encompasses most of the west and parts of Hopkinton and Charlestown already pulverized.
The four areas that were sprayed earlier this month are still considered "critical risk" areas for the virus.
