PORTLAND, Maine (AP) – A Maine astronaut will be the first woman and the third person in the state to travel in space.
Jessica Meir of Caribou will make her first trip to the International Space Station on Wednesday from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, according to NASA.
Meir must launch with a Russian cosmonaut and an astronaut from the United Arab Emirates. It will come back in 2020.
Quite an unreal feeling to look at the real @roscosmos #Soyuz engines that will transport us in space. Photo1: 1st stage engines, 2: 3rd floor (once these engines are cut, we will be in space for @Space station) T-4 days for launch! pic.twitter.com/F0Baij9vkt
